How to make a lasting first date impression

Don’t let your smell beat you to your date
Bathe ! We mean with soup and water, preferably on the same day as the date. Deodorant was a fine invention – use it ! Take it easy on cologne and perfume. If your breath can peel paint, may we suggest a toothbruth – with toothpaste

Two is a company. Three’s a crowd
Group hug ? Not today ! If they wanted to date your friends, roommate, or co-workers, they’d have gotten their phone numbers too. They want to go out with ( and get to know ) you so don’t make it a party. With one-on-one, the focus is on each other. You’re an adult so it’s not necessary to bring a chaperone. If safety is a concern, however, meet in a public place like a restaurant or mall. Let a friend know where you’re going, with whom and when you expect to be home.

Choose a dating activity that allow you to have the best time together
Three hours in a darkened theater without talking is not a good way to get to know someone. Taking your date, who is a vegetarian to a steakhouse won’t impress him anymore than if you starve him. Taking your date to a double-header baseball game when it’s 95 degrees with 90 percent humidity won’t thrill her as much as the fantastic water park across the street.

Be on time
Being late says, “I’m not that interested in impressing you.” Need we say anymore ? Canceling a date at the last minute, short of having a really, really good reason is unacceptable. It’s like ordering your favourite meal at a restaurant only to be told that the particular item is not available. Your expectations were heightened, then crushed.

If you use too much “I” and “Me”, you’ll never get to say “We”
If you dominate a conversation with the word “I”, the relationship will surely die. People want to learn indirectly how wonderful you are, not hear it directly from you. Being a legend in your own mind will bore your date and prove you wrong. If you constantly talk about yourself, you’ll learn nothing about your date. On the other hand, people like to talk about themselves because they think they know the subject well. Give them a chance to talk !

Don’t oversell
While people love hearing how wonderful they are, a constant barrage of compliments can make them uneasy. If you constantly praise a date in a effort to “close the deal”, he or she won’t perceive you as real. Your credibility will be questioned, as they won’t be able to differentiate between a true compliment and a butter-up line.
